An American teaching at a school in Lavington, on the outskirts of Nairobi, was shot dead by robbers after refusing to hand over his bag. Cameron Huntley was walking with his girlfriend near Junction Mall when the two men approached on a motorbike. The North Carolina native was 26 years old.

American shot for defying robbers dies in hospital

An American national died after he was shot by two armed robbers on Wednesday for resisting their attempt to snatch his back pack.

A witness said Cameron Huntley, a language teacher in the area, was shot once in the head and twice in the chest.

Huntley is said to have been walking towards Junction Mall while carrying his laptop, in the company of his girlfriend. He was shot as the woman watched.

The gunman stopped near Huntley, who was a teacher at Language Centre Riara, and ordered him to surrender his bag.

Ms Jirongo pleaded with him to give it up and surrender but he refused, prompting the attacker to snatch it.

Huntley, who was from Buncombe County in North Carolina, confronted the gunman, who fatally shot him in the head.
