A man has been arrested following the murder of a 21-year-old Belgian tourist Wendy Montulet on the island of Sint Maarten. On Saturday, Ms Montulet went for a final run on the island hours before she and her family were due to fly home. Her body was found on Sunday.

A 21-year-old Belgian tourist was found murdered on Sint Maarten on Sunday. Wendy Montulet’s family sounded the alarm when she did not return from a last jog on the Caribbean island. Her body was found in some bushes after an hours long search, RTL Nieuws reports.

Wend Montulet was vacationing on Sint Maarten with her parents, 12-year-old sister and a few friends. A few hours before their flight home she decided to go for a last jog on the island and never returned.

Montulet’s family sounded the alarm when she did not return from a last jog on the Dutch-French island that is 120 miles to the northeast of the Virgin Islands.

Montulet’s body was found in some bushes after an hours long search, according to Belgian newspaper reports.

Montulet was vacationing on Sint Maarten with her parents, 12-year-old sister and a few friends.

Update: Arrest of Wendy Montulet’s killer aided by ‘precise’ witness testimony

Wendy’s body was found in the bushes in Baie Nettle on Sunday after she failed to return to her hotel after a morning run on Saturday. The autopsy of the body is due to be performed today, Thursday, by medical technicians from Guadeloupe.

Guadeloupe Prosecutor Samuel Finielz confirmed the arrest at a press conference Wednesday afternoon by video link, adding the swift arrest had been thanks largely to “precise” descriptions of the suspect from the public responding to the appeal for information combined with a diligent investigation and massive mobilisation of resources by the Gendarmerie.
