An Emirates Boeing 777-300 burst into flames following a hard landing at Dubai International Airport on Thursday. All 282 passengers and 18 crew were safely evacuated before the fire, though many passengers stopped to retrieve their luggage on the way. A firefighter, Jassim Essa Al-Baloushi, was killed while tackling the blaze.

It has been reported that there were problems with the landing gear and a first attempt to land was aborted. An investigation into the incident is expected to take up to five months.
