The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office is following up on reports that a British-Iranian has been detained, accused of spying for British intelligence. Not long ago, the FCO updated its travel advice for Iran, warning that the authorities do not recognise dual nationalities and dual national detainees will not be offered consular assistance.

Iran says it has detained a dual national linked to British intelligence

Iran said on Tuesday it had arrested a dual national last week in Tehran linked to Britain’s intelligence service, the latest in a string of arrests of dual nationals over the past year.

“The accused was working in an economic sector related to Iran,” Tehran prosecutor general Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi was quoted as saying by the state news agency IRNA.

Iran feared to have arrested a fifth Briton amid crackdown on ‘Western infiltration’

Iran’s regime was feared to have detained a fifth British national on Tuesday after the authorities disclosed the arrest of a person allegedly linked to “British intelligence”.

The unnamed individual was described as being an Iranian with dual citizenship, but the nationality of the person’s second passport was not revealed.
