At least 16 people were killed and 85 injured on Wednesday when a lorry crashed into a bus in central Tunisia, the interior ministry said.

The dawn accident, which happened by a roadside market near Kasserine, also left around 15 cars ablaze, according to the ministry.

16 Dead and 85 Injured After Cement Truck Plows into Busy Kasserine Market

Sixteen people have been reported dead and 85 injured after a truck veered out of control in Kasserine, colliding with a bus before driving into a busy Souk.

The incident occurred during the busy weekly market in the region of Khamouda, Foussana Kasserine, which undoubtedly contributed to the high death toll. According to a press releaseissued by the Ministry of Interior, the accident occurred after a failure of a cement truck’s brakes led to the driver losing control and careering into a bus. Following that initial collision, the truck is reported to have collided with an electrical pole, which in turn fell onto a number of cars causing 15 to catch fire.
