Recent Updates: The Risk level(s) and Safety and security tabs were updated – post-electoral tensions.

Tensions remain in Gabon, following the announcement of the official results of the August 2016 presidential elections. The announcement of the provisional results led to violent clashes between demonstrators and police forces that resulted in casualties. The situation is currently calm but tense, as the opposition continues to contest the results. The situation could deteriorate rapidly. There is a heavy police presence in Libreville and in Port-Gentil.
