Professional organisations have expressed concern over the serious impact crime could have on tourism in Swakopmund. The coastal town relies heavily on the tourism sector and recent robberies, combined with a lack of law enforcement and awareness, could impact negatively on that.

Crime threatens tourism at Swakop
CRIME is threatening tourism at Swakopmund, according to the town’s branches of the Hotel Association of Namibia (HAN) and the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI).
Tourism is considered the backbone of this coastal town’s economy, bringing in millions of dollars in foreign currency every year, and contributing to job creation. The NCCI’s Paul Ndjambula said three jobs are created for every tourist arrival, and tourism could slash unemployment by 50%.
