An Australian-British banker was killed three weeks ago at his secure apartment in the tourist district of Johannesburg. Police are investigating, but so far have no leads. James Starkey worked in the financial sector and was on a three month placement in South Africa. His company had arranged the accommodation he was staying in when he was killed.

Mr Starkey was found dead in his apartment complex in Johannesburg by a concerned colleague who went to see him after he failed to make contact on October 8.

His body, which was found in the luxurious Raphael Penthouse Suites, showed signs of brutal injuries, Fairfax Media reports.

The family said Mr Starkey had been nearing the end of his three-month placement in South Africa working for the London-based banking consultancy Catalyst.

“We are extremely shocked this occurred as the apartment, organised by Catalyst, was a high security residence in the centre of the tourist district,” they said.
