On Saturday morning, medical intern Julian Inaki Larrazabal Garcia was abducted from outside Cebu Doctors University Hospital. He was held for a few hours, beaten up before being released. His family own a chain of hotels and hospitals, though it is not believed a ransom was demanded. The motive for his abduction is unknown and an investigation is underway.

Hospital owner’s grandson kidnapped, found blindfolded and bruised

Authorities identified the victim as Julian Inaki Larrazabal Garcia, 26, a medical intern and the grandson of the owner of Cebu Doctors University Hospital.

According to Police Chief Insp. Jose Liddawa, the victim was standing beside his car at the parking area at about 8 a.m. when 4 armed men grabbed him and took him on board a white Toyota Hi-Ace van.

“They found no money inside [his wallet] and maybe that’s why they released him,” Liddawa said.

The witness said he heard one of the assailants say, “Patagam ra na namo (This is just to punish him).”

Before he was brought back to Cebu City, Garcia was taken to a private hospital in Naga for treatment.

Tumulak, who went with the police, said there was no ransom demand and Garcia’s relatives also didn’t receive any threats.
