Advisory Text: Exercise a high degree of caution (with regional advisories)

The Balinese New Year (Nyepi) will take place on March 28, 2017. The Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar will be closed for all incoming and outgoing flights from 6 a.m. on March 28 to 6 a.m. on March 29. Transit flights will still arrive and depart as scheduled; however, passengers who are in transit during this period will be required to stay inside the airport. All shops and harbours in and around Bali will be closed during this period. Locals are required to observe 24 hours of silence and remain indoors with the lights off. Tourists should stay in their accommodations, make no noise, and keep the shades drawn at night. Nyepi is an important cultural event for the people of Bali and you should be sensitive and observe local custom to avoid giving offence. Seek local advice if you have questions.
