Latest update: Summary – information and advice on Pope Francis’s visit to Portugal and increased border controls between 10 and 14 May 2017

Pope Francis will visit Portugal on 12 and 13 May 2017. Read this information and advice page for pilgrims travelling to Fátima.

Strike action by security guards at Portuguese airports from 13 to 17 May 2017 may cause delays. If you’re travelling during this period, make allowance for the additional time it may take to go through security control and to check-in luggage.

Portugal will impose border controls on all travellers between 10 and 14 May 2017 to enhance security during the Pope’s visit. Allow extra time to go through passport control at airports, seaports and border crossings. Contact your travel provider for more information and guidance.
