Last Tuesday, an Irish tourist was shot dead at a petrol station near Lazaras Cardenas in Michoacán. Noel Maguire and his American girlfriend had stopped to ask directions to a beach, when two gunmen attempted to hijack their car. When one of the gunmen moved to steal the American’s handbag, Maguire stepped in to defend her and was shot dead.

The Irish Sun reported that local authorities believe they know who is behind the carjacking and murder. Carlos Gómez Arrieta, state subsecretary for security, said –

“It is one of the groups which hit us in that zone, they come here to steal vehicles, they go to Lombardia and Cuatro Caminos. The prosecutor’s office is already investigating this issue, obviously it’s terrible they have taken someone’s life.”
