Two Swedish tourists and their local driver were injured when local militants opened fire on their vehicle in on the national highway near Cauayan town in Negros Occidental on Tuesday afternoon.

Karl Christer Arvidson was shot in his left wrist, Juliana Eeiko Palmero sustained a gunshot wound to her shoulder and their driver, Jason Tumayao was shot on the left side of his face, stomach and left thigh.

It is believed the target was the police vehicle in front, which was responding to a robbery. Following the shooting, there was a firefight between the police and the militants.

The tourists and their driver were treated at the the Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City before they were taken to the VAMC Sanitarium in Bacolod City.
