On Wednesday evening, a German nurse was abducted by gunmen from a compound owned by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Mogadishu.
She was reportedly taken out via a back gate, ‘avoiding the ICRC’s security guards who were stationed at the main gate.’ The guards have since been arrested and a massive search for the nurse is currently underway.
The BBC reports that the ‘10 remaining international staff are being evacuated to Nairobi until further notice.‘ The ICRC has temporarily suspended work in Mogadishu, while local nationals continue programmes elsewhere in the country.
