On Saturday, American Danny Lavon Burch was ‘detained’ by armed men in Sana’a, who stopped his vehicle as he was driving his children to a sports club.

According to the New York Times, ‘witnesses said he had been stopped on a busy street in Sana by five armed men in civilian clothes who drove a pickup truck with no license plates.’ He has not been seen since.

Burch has worked in the oil industry in Yemen for many years, and it is believed that he is currently employed by the oil company Safer, a subsidiary of the state owned Yemen Oil and Gas Corporation. His wife is Yemeni and she told the Times that she has not yet been contacted by his kidnappers and is unable to confirm their identity or affiliation.
