Location: Chandragiri Hills Cable Car and other places within the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal
Event: U.S. Embassy Kathmandu is aware of threats by a local group against the Chandragiri Hills Cable Car attraction through late March 2018. The Chandragiri Hills Cable Car is a popular tourist attraction located in Thankot, in the southwest portion of the Kathmandu Valley. Based on this information, U.S. government employees are not permitted to visit the location during this period of heightened threat. The same group has also threatened to extort and to engage in acts of violence against other private businesses, including local and international schools within the Kathmandu Valley.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the Chandragiri Hills Cable Car through late March 2018.
- Exercise increased caution within the Kathmandu Valley.
- Report any instances of threats or attempted extortion to the Nepal Police.
