From the US Embassy in Madagascar

Location: Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods of City Hall in Analakely, Antananarivo.

Event: Opposition politicians have said that they will continue public meetings downtown every day starting at 10 a.m. for the foreseeable future.  Recent gatherings have drawn large crowds and shown the potential for tensions to escalate.  U.S. citizens are strongly advised to use caution if going to this area.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the meetings in Analakely and the surrounding areas in downtown Antananarivo of Soarano, Behoririka, Tsaralalana, Ambodifilao, Ambatomena, Andohan’Analakely, and Ambohijatovo.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Keep a low profile.
